Calon Lan Centre

The Calon Lan Centre is a heritage centre operating out of Mynyddbach Chapel. The charity’s mission is to become established as a national heritage centre based around the Calon Lan anthem, which was written by Daniel James (known by his bardic name, Gwyrosydd) in the 1890’s. The anthem has become famous throughout Wales and is sung in schools, in sporting events and in many local and global Welsh gatherings.

Embedded in this mission statement are the following goals:

  • To become a local tourism/cultural centre, where people interested in the history of Calon Lan can visit the chapel. Once inside the chapel, visitors can learn of the history of Daniel James, Calon Lan, and the chapel that inspired the writings of ‘Gwyrosydd’. Visitors may also purchase souvenirs from the centre during their visit.
  • To become a central hub of communication (online and offline) for people based in different parts of the world to be connected to the Calon Lan Centre and its mission.

The Centre also aims to become an established chapel venue:

  • For local and international choirs, inspired by the Calon Lan story, to sing and perform at the centre.
  • For TV productions, leveraging the quiet, off-road, acoustically excellent nature of the Mynyddbach Chapel location.
  • For weddings and funerals, utilising the chapel and chapel grounds, which are ideally suited for both purposes.

We also intend for the centre to become a supportive resource for many of the 57 chapels that were planted and established through Mynyddbach Chapel.

Finally, with the impending development of 2,500-5,000 new homes around Mynyddbach Chapel, the Calon Lan Centre will once again be reestablished as a central church hub for the local community, meeting its social, emotional, and spiritual needs through various activities.
