The Calon Lan Centre is a heritage centre operating out of Mynyddbach Chapel. The charity’s mission is to become established as a national heritage centre based around the Calon Lan anthem, which was written by Daniel James (known by his bardic name, Gwyrosydd) in the 1890’s. The anthem has become famous throughout Wales and is sung in schools, in sporting events and in many local and global Welsh gatherings.
Embedded in this mission statement are the following goals:
The Centre also aims to become an established chapel venue:
We also intend for the centre to become a supportive resource for many of the 57 chapels that were planted and established through Mynyddbach Chapel.
Finally, with the impending development of 2,500-5,000 new homes around Mynyddbach Chapel, the Calon Lan Centre will once again be reestablished as a central church hub for the local community, meeting its social, emotional, and spiritual needs through various activities.
In the spring of 2020, Swansea Museum in collaboration with the Calon Lân Centre in Swansea, will be hosting a museum exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the death of local and Welsh poet, Daniel James (Gwyrosydd), author of the famous Welsh anthem, “Calon Lân”.
